There was . a large attendance for the opening day of the Auckland Trotting Club’s spring meeting held at Alexandra Park on Saturday. Although the weather was wet, the totalisator figures were up by £5,317, the figure being £20,721, compared with £15,404 for the corresponding day last year:— Mountain Handicap, of 175 sovs; trotters only; two miles. — (2-1) Polly Pan, 12yds (F. J. Smith), 1; (4-4) Captain Bolt, scr, 2; (10-10) Fleet Arrow, scr, 3. Nine others started. Won by a length; half a length. Time—4.44. October Handicap, of 160 sovs; one mile and a half. — (1-1) Tollgate, scr, (F. J .Smith), 1; (6-5) General Sarsfield, scr, 2;, (5-6) Proletarian, scr, 3. Eight others started. Won by a length; two lengths. Time—3.23. Stewards’ Handicap, of 135 sovs; one mile and a half.— (1-1) Mountain Flight, scr (F. J. Smith), 1; (8-9) Kia Kaha, scr, 2; (3-2) Derby Lu, scr, 3. Nine others started. Won by a length and a half; two lengths. Time—3.33 1-5.
Electric Handicap, of 225 sovs; one mile and a quarter.—(2-2) Lady Fame, scr (Broughton), 1; (1-1) King’s Warrior, scr, 2; (5-5) Hohoro. scr, 3. Five others started. Won by a head; a length and a half between second and third. Time—2.s2.
