RIDING WITH A RISK

SPECTACULAR MOTOR CYCLE JUMPS Dare-devil riding by Mr A. D. Walker gave the gymkhana public thrills late in the afternoon. First, Mr Walker, on his Velocette motor cycle, gave an exhibition of a long jump. His take-off was from a 12ft. plank, sloping to a length of 15inch in the air. Speeding to the board at over 30 miles per hour, Mr Walker accomplished a terrific jump, almost losing his seat in doing so. Flying through the air, he covered more than 35 yards before the tyres again hit earth. Clad in white overalls, and with his face protected by goggles, the rider then essayed to jump through a blazing screen. This proved most spectacular, and the crowd gasped as man and machine hurtled through the leaping flames. It was all over in a second, and Mr Walker smilingly acknowledged the ovation which he received.
