NAZIS RECOGNISE ITALIAN CONQUEST

GRANTED CONCESSIONS BY DUCE? (Received 10 a.m;) LONDON, October 24. A despatch from Rome says it is officially stated that Germany has recognised Italy’s sovereignty over Abyssinia. A telegram from Berlin says diplomatic circles there are most . surprised at the recognition of the conquest of Abyssinia. They believe Italy must have granted

Germany substantial concessions. Italian circles indicate that Germany will be allowed to participate in the colonisation of Abyssinia and that Italy will not oppose Germany’s expansion in East Europe. , Empire In Seven Months,

Signor Mussolini, addressing 150,000 Fascists at Bologna,. said Italy has created an Empire in seven months and her columns were marching rapidly to the fertile regions of the Great Lakes. Another column was seeking the phantom Government at Gore.

“I send a message of peace to the world,” said II Duce. “The olive branch grows from a forest of eight million Italian bayonets.” Signor Mussolini did not refer to Germany’s recognition of the conquest of Abyssinia. Italy has ordered a number of zeppelins from Germany for the purpose of establishing a service from Rome to Addis Ababa to commence early in 1937.

U.S. Attitude

The Secretary of State, Mr Cordell Hull, says a Washington message, stated that he had not been apprised of Germany’s recognition of Italy’s conquest of Abyssinia, and had given no consideration to the question of similar action by the United States. Signor Suvich, the new Italian Ambassador, was officially received, on an advance understanding that recognition of the Italian conquest was not implied.
