VAGRANT WEATHER
WEEK-END SURPRISES
The weather is doing its best to please everybody. Terrific rain early cn Friday morning appeared to have cleared with an electrical storm, answering the call of the A. & P. Society for a fine day for the- opening of the band contests.
On Saturday night the weather appeared to be perfectly settled, and at Jubilee Park a rather heavy dew fell during the progress of the selection contest. However, these auguries for a fine week-end were definitely misIcfading, and the farmers’ call was again answered. Whangarei awoke yesterday morning to the rhythm of an almost floodlike rain. This continued unabated until late in the morning, but, with the hymn contest due to start at 2 o’clock, and the pastures sufficiently soaked, the weather took another unexpected turn, and the sun again appeared.
Several light showers fell yesterday evening, but hardly enough to inconvenience the public, who turned out in sufficient numbers to fill both the Town Hall arid Plaza Theatre for the band concerts. This morning it appeared that settled conditions had returned, and a warm, drying sun added the last preparatory touch for the gymkhana.
