Perfect golfing conditions prevailed at B'almacewan on Saturday for the second round of the women’s amateur golf championship, The sufprise of the round was the'defeat of Miss Jean Horwell, the lowest handicap player in the tourney, by Miss Betty Rutherford. The results were: — Miss Rutherford (Christchurch) beat Miss Horwell (Timaru), 1 up. Miss White-Parsons (Christchurch) beat Mrs. Jarvis (Wellington), 5 and 3.
Mrs. McKillop (Christchurch) beat Mrs. Young (Wanganui), 1 up. Miss Smith (Invercargill) beat Miss Buchanan, 3 and 1. Miss Stevens (Auckland) beat Mrs. R. Grace (Wanganui), 6 and 4./ Miss Stevenson (Christchurch) beat Mrs. Carr (Otago) on the 19th. Miss .Rice (Wyndham) beat Miss Foreman (Wellington) by .default. Miss Wheeler (Wellington) beat Mrs. MacPherson (Otago) on the 20th. Miss Hornabrook (Masterton) beat Mrs. McCarthy (Otago), 1 up.
Mrs. Templer (Waimate) beat Mrs. Robertson (Tapanui), 4 and 2. Miss Betts (Nelson) beat Mrs. HallJones (Invercargill), 6 and 5. Mrs. Scott (Timaru) beat Miss Ormond (Napier), 3 and 2. The New Zealand championship foui’somes were also contested during the day, a field of 20 fours participating. The champions turned out to be Miss Horwell and Miss Fleming, who returned a good gross score of 83, and who will hold the Hawke’s Bay Cups for one year. In the handicap division, Mrs Aspinall and Mrs McCorkindale wohveasily with a card reading 91, 17 —74, second place being filled by Miss Murray and Miss Brewer with a score of 92, 16—76.
