WHANGAREI AERODROME

We commend, to the authorities a suggestion made, by a correspondent that Miss Jean Batten, the famous airwoman, should be invited to turn the first sod in connection with the construction of the Whangarei aerodrome, which it has been decided to establish at Onerahi. Miss Batten intends to pay a visit to Whangarei in the near future, and it would certainly make a very happy occasion if her visit and the initial ceremony at the aerodrome site were to coincide. It is expected that work at the aerodrome will commence in the (not distant future, and it should be possible to take action along the lines suggested by our correspondent. It would do much to arouse in aviation an interest that so far has been dormant in Whangarei, to which, unlike some other centres of ]ess importance, an aerodrome and the regular coming and going of aeroplanes are still matters of anticipalion.
