HOREKE

Miss M. McSweeney. of Horeke, is paying a holiday visit to Whangaroa. The "Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting last week, Mrs N. Gilberd presiding. A very interesting talk was given by Nurse Merlet, the new District Nurse. The competitions were won by Mrs Gilberd, Mrs Muriwai, ..and Mrs Joyce. Mr and Mrs Nelson Baker were tendered a tin-canning party by their numerous friends on their arrival home last week. It ended in an enjoyable dance in the, Umawera Hall: The Horeke golf links were, en fete during the week-end,, when the local club entertained members from the Hokianga Golf Club to a day’s-friendly play. The morning game was a fourball best-ball match, over ten. ..holes; and in the afternoon two-ball games were played. The results were as follows, the visitors’ names being mentioned first in each case: —

Crallan and Houlihan beat Schraff and Harris, 5 and 4; Robertson and Julian beat Blundell and Queenin, & and 3; Murray and Farrell beat Molloy and' Tullock, 2 and 1. Mesdames Julian and Newton lost to Miss Rose and Mrs Molloy, 2 and 3; Mesdames Houlihan and Creighton lost to Mesdames Gilberd and Rose, 5 and 4; Mesdames Tullock and Robinson lost to Misses E. and J. Rose, 1 up. Crallan beat Harris 1 up, Houlihan beat Schraff 4 and 3, Robertson lost to Blundell 2 up, Julian beat Queenin 4 and 3, Farrell and Molloy all square, Murray lost to Tulloch 1 up.

Mrs Julian lost to Miss Rose 4 and 3, Mrs Newton beat Mrs Molloy 2 up, Mrs Houlihan lost to Mrs Gilberd 2 up, Mrs Creighton lost to Mrs Rose 9 and 6. Mrs Tullock lost to Miss J. Rose 7 and 2, Mrs Robinson beat Miss E. Rose 2 up. ' . . At the conclusion of the day’s play. Mrs Gilberd spoke on behalf of the Horeke Golf Club, Mr Robertson responding on behalf of the visitors.

Miss Mona Rose was the winner of the Yorke Cup competition, which was finalised on Saturday last. The men’s competition for the Rose Cup is not yet completed. During the temporary absence of Mr and Mrs T. Molloy from their residence at Ivydale recently, thieves entered and ransacked the house.
