KAIWAKA
The Kaiwaka Women’s Institute committee meeting, which was held in the public hall on Thursday, 13th Inst., was followed by a ladies’ meeting, to form a branch of the Plunket Society in the district. There were fourteen ladies present, including three from Maungaturoto. Mrs Leslie, senr., addressed the ladies, and welcomed the visitors. She then invited Mts Civil (Maungaturoto) to address the meeting, and to outline the movement and give an idea of the first steps to be taken. Mrs C. Cameron was elected secretary and* treasurer of the new branch, and Mrs Leslie was elected as president. Vice-presidents elected were Mrs McClean and Mrs Hall, and the following ladies constitute the remainder of the committee: Mesdames W. Dunn, A. W. Leslie, C. Hall and F. Henson. A subscription list for membership was handed round, and, together with promises from absent supporters, the membership soon reached twenty-one. Mrs McClean kindly offered a room in her house in which to hold meetings, and to meet the Plunket nurse, until the branch gains a firm footing. The meeting was closed with a vote of thanks to the visiting ladies, who had come a distance to give their assistance and support. Afternoon tea was then served, and was much appreciated.
