MR GOODFELLOW'S IMPRESSIONS

Mr William Goodfcllow, who returned to New Zealand yesterday after a business visit to Britain, has delivered himself of observations which provide Iho people of this Dominion with food for thought. Tie is evidently nol apprehensive of the outcome of the policy of guaranteed prices for dairy produce, for though Toolcy Street is reported to be “nervous,” Mr Goodfcllow believes that New Zealand’s marketing efforts will be successful, lie was impressed by the increasing prosperity of Great Britain, and thjnks this will be reflected in

better prices for our dairy pr°* | dnee and other goods not already restricted by import quotas. But, with optimism regarding the outlook for trade, Mr Goodfellow evidently shares with many people who have studied world affairs a| fear that unless wise counsels pre- • vail the nations may fly at one another’s throats again. In this* connection, he utters a word of j warning to the people of Austra-1 ilia and New Zealand that trade] Sand defence go hand in hand. The i coming of the aeroplane, which j should have made a tremendous boon to mankind, has brought with it anxieties that cancel out very largely the advantages which annihilation of space should represent. Mr Goodfellow is firmly convinced that Australia and New Zealand should give immediate attention to the question iof preparing defences against attacks from the air. This is eommonsense.
