A fair volume of business has been transacted on the Auckland Stock Exchange over the past 24 hours, but the tone was rather quiet this morning, when eight sales were recorded, only one in the room. Bidding was restrained in most sections. In the banking class, Commercials failed to hold the full extent of the latest rise, and changed hands Id lower'at 18/9, with a subsequent market between 18/8 and 18/10.
New Zealands eased 2d, with business at £2 Os 3d and later quotations from £2 Os 2d and £2 Os Bd. Insurances were quiet at late rates. Woolworths (New Zealand) came closer to business, whencbuyers moved up to £5 9/, and sellers dropped 1/ to £5 14/. Australian issues were quoted as freely as usual, but values were not greatly changed, though Coles were offered at £3 18s 9d, without response from buyers. Government stocks were firm, and 55’s changed hands 10/ better, at £lO5 2s 6d. Mortgage Corporation Bonds were on offer at £9B, with no buyers. The following sales were recorded at the noon call today:—Auckland Gas, £1 5s 8d; Bycrofts, £2; Wool'ths (pref.), £1 15s 3d; Australian Glass, £4 13s; unlis|ed, Ziproff (ex rights), £2 10s.
