Making ‘clever use of his legs Sam Leathers defeated Harry Kent by two falls to one in a professional wrestling match at New Plymouth on Saturday night. Leathers took a submission fall in the fourth round with a head scissors. Kent evened the falls with a body press after a series of flying tackles and dumps, but he submitted in the sixth round, after being rocked in a body scissors.

After a fast and willing contest at Dunedin, Earl McCready, 16.12, beat Paul Boesch, 15.10, by the only fall secured in an eight-rounds wrestling bout. Boesch was ahead on points in the first five rounds, but McCready’s superior weight and strength then began to tell. Within a minute of the commencement of the last round McCready side-stepped the fourth of a succession of drop-kicks, and took a fall after dumping his opponent.

At the Leichhardt Stadium, Sydney, Lurich defeated Haban Singh by two falls to one after 60 minutes wrestling in a contest scheduled for two hours. Singh took the first fall after the bout had been in progress for 30 minutes with an octopus hold. Lurich then gained a fall with a back-loop slam, which left the Indian “groggy." and. immediately on resuming, Lurich repeated the process to win the contest.
