MAUNGATUROTO NEWS

A WORKING BEE.

Maungaturoto, July 1, 1936.

Dear Kupe and Princess Raranga, I am not a member of the Kupe Club—l would be if I could, but you see I “growed up.” I didn’t grow more than 4ft logins, and hate being told I’m grown up, because I probably never will grow old at heart. But I am quite a bit over the age limit to be a member of the Kupe Club. I was very pleased to see the launching of the happiness campaign, and now comes some good news. We have a little club of girls in Maungaturoto and they meet at our house every other Saturday afternoon and knit for all they are worth. We have some music, as most of them can play the piano very nicely, and we play the gramophone, too. Also we do quite a lot of sweet chewing. Last week as I knitted, I read Isabel M. Peacock’s lovely story about “Sand Babies” and everyone loved that. The members of our club are Doreen Smith, Meiva Howard, Eunice Jeffs, Monica and Joan Warroll, Roberta Cockerton, Marie Smith and Moyra Cliff. Some- are little girls six and seven years, and the others are up to about thirteen. We are hoping to send you, a nice parcel of “Happies” later on. I would like to know if I could call and see you at the office one Wednesday afternoon between half past two and 3 o’clock. I am in Whangarei on Wednesday quite often. Well, I must close wishing you every success with the “Happiness” work. Yours sincerely, HAZEL CURTIS SMITH. P.S: We are having several new members I hear! Hooray for more patches! (Good news it was in this chatty and friendly letter. To this Maungaturoto' working bee Kupe and Princess Raranga send their good wishes. May their good work and jolly times continue.)
