PAPAROA GOES DRY

DROUGHT CAUSES INCONVENIENCE. Except for a few minor showers, little rain has fallen in the Paparoa district for nearly six weeks, and the shortage of water for domestic purposes is causing householders concern. Sutherland's boarding-house is in an unenviable position, and the shortage has caused considerable inconvenience. Householders living adjacent to the stream flowing through Paparoa are fortunate in being able to rely on this source for emergency rations. In some households the bucket brigade is now the regular thing first thing in the morning. A few light showers fell on Monday, and the outlook is still rather on the damp side, but unless a regular downpour eventuates within the next few days, farmers and residents of the county will have good cause to remember the early winter of 1936 as being the driest recorded in the North for many years.
