ROYAL SHOW SUGGESTION
4 LIMITATION TO TWO' CENTRES [per Press Association . — Copyright .] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The proposal that the Royal Show should be held at dnly two centres in New Zealand, at Christchurch one year and Palmerston North the next, was discussed at a meeting of the general committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday. Although several members spoke strongly in support of the proposal, no resolution was carried, the opinion being expressed that such a resolution would not come well from the Canterbury association. It was considered the. proposal was one for breeders, and not for agricultural and pastoral associations as interested parties to support. Reference was made to the report of a meeting in Invercargill, at which it was alleged that Canterbury was playing a big part in the move to have the venues of the Royal Shows limited to thle two cities. Several speakers said the reference was unfortunate. The remarks made in the report should have been applied also to South Canterbury* which had long advocated the limitation proposals. No remit supporting the proposal had been sent forward from the Canterbury association. Mr D. W. Wesfenra, .who began the discussion., said it was his considered opinion that the show should be held alternately at Palmerston North and Christchurch. Naturally, Invercargill and Auckland wanted -to hold Royal Shows, but New Zealand was too narrow for exhibitors to travel from one end of one island to the far end of the other. There should be one central site in the North and one in the South Islands. Mr J. R. Little said only Palmerston North and Christchurch could give the facilities for stock and the accommodation that were expected at a Royal Show.
