ALL LINES SELL READILY [Special to “Northern Advocate/”} AUCKLAND, This Day. Sheep were yarded in average numbers at the Westfield fat stock sales »yesterday. Although all lines sold readily, bidding was not as spirited for wethers as it had been at some of the recent sales. Offerings of pigs, which were in short supply last week, showed a marked increase, and, although some individual pens of heavy baconers exceeded the £4 a head mark, the quotations generally for this class were about the same as last Week. Baconers averaged s|d to 6d per lb., and porkers, 5d to h^d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., reports on the sale as follows; — Sheep.—We had an average yarding of sheep, which sold readily, with values improving on last week’s sale. Heavy prime wethers, £1 10/ to £1 11/6; medium prime, £lB/ to £1 9/9; light, £1 5/ to £1 7/9; small and unfinished, £1 to £1 4/. Heavy prime ewes, £1 3/ to £1 4/; medium piime, £1 1/ to £1 2/9; light prime, 18/ to 20/6; just killable ewes, 15/ to 17/; infetiorily fatted ewes, 3/6 upwards. Lambs. —We penned lambs in small numbers, with values very firm at late rates. Ijlxtra heavy lambs, 20/3; heavy prime, 23/9 to 26/6; medium prime, 22/ to 23/6; light prime, 20/ to 20/9; small and unfinished, 15/ to 19/. Pigs.—We had less than an average yarding of pigs. Good quality pigs sold under keen competition, and values were very firm on last week’s quotations. Choppers sold from £2 10/ to £4 8/; medium baconers, £3 6/ to £3 13/; light baconers and heavy porkers, £2 10/ to £3 5/; medium and light porkers, £2 6/ to £2 8/; small and unfinished, £1 5/ to £1 16/. Store pigs sold at late rates. Large stores, 19/ to 23/; slips, 14/ to 18/; weaners, 9/ to 15/. Cows and heifers freely at late rates. Extra choice ox sold to 27/ per lOOlbs.; choice and prime, 23/ to 25/; secondary and plain, 20/ to 22/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 24/ to 26/; secondary. 13/ to 20/; extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £ll 10/ to £l4 17/6; heavy, £9 103to £lO 53-; lighter, £8 10/- to £9; light, £7 TO/ to £8 5/; small and unfinished, £4 to £6 5/; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £7 to £8 2/6; heavy, £s„to £6 5/; lighter, £4 to' £4 -12/; other killable cows, £2 10/ to £3 7/6.
RATES AT ADDINGTON PRICES WELL MAINTAINED IPer Press Association. — Copyright .3 CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Prices were well maintained in most classes of stock at the Addington market yesterday. Store sheep.—A smaller yarding and improved values for forward wethers and ewes. The former sold at 24/7, and sound-mouth ewes at 24/6; failing-mouth, 19/; ewe lambs, 25/9. Fat lambs.—A keen sale, with prices up to a halfpenny above schedule rates. Fat sheep.—A big entry of 5000 head. Big wethers were slightly easier, but export ewes were firmer. Other sorts were unchanged. Best wethers made 27/ to 35/; good, 24/ to 27/6; medium, 22/ to 23/6; best ewes, 22/6 to 27/; good, 20/ to 22/; export, 14/ to 16/6. Fat cattle. —There were 450 penned. Little change occurred in the market. Best steers made £lO to £l3; good mediumweight, £8 10/ to £9 15/; ordinary, £6 to £7 10/; best heifers, £7 to £9 5/; good, £5 10/ to £6 15/; best cows, £6 10/ to £9; good, £5 to £6 5/. Fat pigs.—No change in values. Baconers, 48/6 to £4. The average price per lb. was 5d to s|d. Porkers. 28/ to £2 1/6. The average price per lb. was 5d to sid; choppers, 30/ to £4.
AT STORTFORD LODGE [Per Press Association. — Covyright.l HASTINGS, This Day. Fat cattle 'yarded at Stortford Lodge yesterday showed a big improvement in quality on late sales. Values for quality lines showed little change, prime ox beef making about 25/ per lOOlbs. A draft of 30 heavy Drumpeel bullocks averaged £lO 17/3; unfinished sorts ranged from £8 to £9 10/; heavy cows made to £7 10/; medium, £6 to £6 15/. Other killable sorts, chiefly inferior, found little demand. An outstanding entry of fifteen unweaned extra prime heifers made £7 10/. There was only a small yarding of store cattle forward, consisting chiefly of good station 18-month steers and heifers, which sold equal to last week’s values. Good three-year steers realised £B. A very small yarding of store sheep was offered, with values remaining unchanged. Fat sheep found a steady market, good ewes making 21/ to 23/; medium, 18/6 to 20/; prime 2-tooth, 24/8. Lambs generally light to medium made from 19/ to 21/9. MINING NEWS Stafford Dredging (West Coast). — Week ended May 29, 51 oz. Bdwts. smelted gold for 11,751 yards.

GOLD AND SILVER QUOTATIONS (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, June 9. Fine gold is quoted today at £6 19/ an ounce, compared with £6 19/4 yesterday. Silver is quoted at 19 7-8 d an ounce spot, and 19 15-16 d forward, compared with 20 l-16d, both positions, yesterday. The quotation for silver at per fine ounce is 21 7-16 d. compared with 21 5-8 d yesterday.
