BASKETBALL
WHANGAREI MATCHES With favourable weather all matches under the Whangarei Basketball Association were finished in good time on Saturday. Results were as follow: A GRADE. » Old Girls A 8, v. Lacey Sisters 2. Old Girls A are a very fit team, and show the result of continued training, For Lacey Sisters, Mrs Lacey was a tower of strength, and was in her right place in the defence, although through keenness, at times, she was apt to over-defend. She should try to overcome this and remember that the arms should not go out of the vertical and the horizontal plane. No easy goals were scored against this team. What the players really need is more practice, which will improve their combination. City 6, v. Bargain Store B 3. —This is the first year City has competed in the A Grade, but most of the girls are experienced players, land the team should do well this season.
Bargain Store A 11, Hikurangi 3. High School A 38, Old Girls B 1. High School B 7, Murawhenua 5. E GRADxii. McKenzies 17, Bargain Store C 9. Lupton A 10, Ramblers 2. Poroti 20, Lupton B 0. High School C 11, High School D 5. This was a very pleasing game to watch. The girls on both sides showed a good knowledge of basketball, and were very keen to do the best 'they could for their side. Convent B 13, Convent A 4. —Convent B again showed the. result of continued training. Convent A had many players in their team who had not played for two or three years.
