J3ATRICK Dempsey, aged 19 years, of Burke Street, Christchurch, was fatally injured when shooting in the Rakaia river-bed yesterday. His’ gun accidentally discharged when he slipped while climbing a steep bank. Two companions carried him three miles to the nearest habitation, but Dempsey died before they reached the house. The deceased was employed at Green’s Bacon Factory, of which his father is manager.—Press Assn.
CHINESE, Sue Dick Kee, of Otaki, was picked up unconscious on the roadside near the Otaki River bridge on Saturday afternoon, suffering from injuries from which he succumbed while on the way to the hospital, says a Palmerston North message. He was 75 years of age and a gardener. It is not known how he received his injuries. It is thought he may have been struck by a passing motor car.—Press Assn.
H. M.S. Achilles, which was com-
missioned as a ship of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy on March 31 last, and has since been completing her refit and carrying out commissioning practices off Gibraltaris now to be attached to the Mediterranean fleet for a period of service before sailing for New Zealand waters. A further announcement will be made concerning her movements and the date of 'her arrival when the length of her service with the Mediterranean fleet is finally decided upon.
PROFESSIONAL wrestling match
between Lofty Blomfield (Auckland) and Paul Boesch (America), in the Town Hall, on Saturday evening, was won by the former after each man had gained a fall.—Special.
