ITALY AND AUSTRIA
LEADERS DISCUSS PROBLEMS lUnited Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright.! (Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, June 7. In a two-hour conference in North Italy, Signor Mussolini and the Austrian Chancellor, Dr Schuschnigg, says the “Sunday Observer’s” Vienna correspondent, referred to the Italian and Austrian attitude to world problems, including possibilities arising out of the forthcoming session of the League and Austria’s action if Italy were forced to leave the League, owing to maintenance of sanctions.
However, Signor Mussolini, who thus far has only declared that the continuance of sanctions will raise in urgent form the question of Italy’s remaining in the League, appears to be optimistic regarding the League’s decision.
Italian and Austrian relations towards Germany were also considered, the correspondent states, but rumours of an Italian-German rapprochment are considered to be exaggerated. It is understood that Signor Mussolini and Dr Schuschnigg agreed that restoration of the Hapsburgs to the Austrian throne was at present inopportune.
