SENIOR B

A GRUELLING MATCH After a tense duel in which there were few beg pardons, the senior B j match at Kensington Park resulted in | a win for Pipiwai bj' eight points to .six. From the outset it was apparent that the game was going to be a willing one and Pipiwai were rather handicapped until they became aware that the referee was in sole charge of the game. Mr E. A. Harrison, who handled the whistle, kept the game under excellent control, and frequently pulled up obstruction and late tackling. Within ten minutes Manaia were six points up, thanks to a couple of penalty goals, kicked by Heffernan, who proved himself the mainstay of the team., Manaia had all the better of the first Half, and the score remained six—nil in their favour. Thoroughly roused, the Pipiwai team, now playing much better football and profiting from the lessons ; learnt from the referee in the first j half, held the advantage for the re-! mainder of the game. Herewini, on the wing, made some great bursts down the sideline. In one of them he j ran three parts the length of the field. | fending off all-comers and scoring as j he liked for Edmonds to convert. It was only thanks to the good saving of Harnett, Manaia’s full-back, that his side did not concede many points in the play which followed. i Pipiwai snatched the game out of the fire and retained their unbeaten record when Edmonds finished off a passing bout from the scrum with a good try. The kick missed and the final was: Pipiwai 8, Manaia 6.
