WHAKAPARA
A MEAN THEFT. One of our bachelor farmers bought a 4cwt. cask of molasses recently. It was delivered and left on a bank in front of his shed, but someone, during the hours of darkness, has taken the cask, molasses and all. i RAIL-ROAD REPAIRS. The railway authorities are still hard at work repairing flood damage. Ever since the flood the man power of the gangs has been increased and divided into two gangs, one half working the southern portion and the other the northern portion of the section. Mr Baker, of the local staff, has been promoted to temporary ganger, and is in charge of one •of gangs till the rail-road is brought back to normal. CHURCH MATTERS. At a meeting of the managers of the Presbyterian Church, held at the Manse, very optimistic reports were given of the prospects of the work throughout the station. The meeting was presided over by Rev. C. Brierly, Moderator of Hikurangi, who welcomed Mr Stone as treasurer. Arrangements were made for means of transport, a new method of church finance was discussed, and a day is to be arranged for a working bee to erect the garage blown down by the gale. Supper was partaken of at the close of the meeting.
