NO PUBLIC INQUIRY

TROUBLE AT MI. EDEN GAOL

I Special to "Normern Advocate ." 3 AUCKLAND, This Day.

There will be no public inquiry into the recent trouble at Mt. Eden Prison, or into the working of the present prison system, according to a definite statement made this morning by the Minister in Charge of Prisons, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason. To his knowledge the present system was working well, he said. That was evidenced in the figures. Five or six years ago the New Zealand daily; prison population averaged between 1500 and 1600. Now it had dropped to from 1000 to 1100.
