No damage was done. • * ♦ ♦ JNJURIES from which he died within fifteen minutes were suffered by Mr. Alexander George Reid, an engineer, aged 22, who lived with his parents at 25 Newman Terrace, Thorndon, when he was thrown with his “ motor, cycle under an' approaching car about two miles north of Pahautanui, •about 5.30 p.m, yesterday. Mr. Reid ' suffered a fracture of the skull, and a fracture of the left leg. M! ss M. Quinn and Mrs R. Callis, both of Te Awamutu, narrowly escaped serious injury when their car was struck by a train on Saturday evening. M R G. J. Skeats, 3T.A., of the starf ■ of the Waitaki Boys’ High School, has been nominated by the Oarnaru Boxing Association for the position of manager for the 1936 team for the Olympic Games. Mr Skeats has a splendid record in athletics, as well as in administrative capacity. His qualifications include:—Referee in New Zealand boxing championships; winner of a triple “blue” of New Zealand University (boxing, Rugby and athletics), N.Z. high jump championship; runner-up twice to S. /pHE Minister of Finance, the Hon. W, Nash, in presiding at a Salvation Army meeting at Wellington yesterday- afternoon for an address by Commissioner W. J. Barnard-Turner, said he could assure those of the Army carrying on work for the spiritual, moral and social regeneration of the people, that the Government would be prepared to assist them to the utmost of its ability. It was the “bottom dog” in all things \#io should be looked after. Commissioner Turner gave an address on “The World’s Trend in Social Economics.” The Minister of Education and Health, the Hon. P.
