Senior Cricket Title Hangs In The Balance
Services Have Three-Point Lead Over Nomads
The fate of the Whangarei cricket championship hangs in the balance and depends on the unplayed fixture between Nomads and Maungakaramea, which is scheduled to take place next Saturday.
Services, on Saturday, were matched against Old Boys, and had they won the match, the honours would have been theirs. Old Boys, however, have not been beaten during the second round, and they continued their break by holding Weir and Co. down to a draw. , For the third time this season, the ex-scholars, who are now a strong batting side, passed the 200 mark —a (eat which has not been performed by any other club. Bright, with a century to his credit, gave his side a big leg-in.
Services, faced with a time-shortage, did not try for the runs, and the game was drawn, becoming an addition to the remarkable sequence of unfinished fixtures this season, which is a strong argument for two-day matches. '
At' Hikurangi, Whangarei retained their position of third by easily accounting for the home side, and Onerahi opened their winning record ,this round by defeating School. The match ’Karamea v. Nomads was postponed.
This was the concluding round, and except' for two matches outstanding, competitive cricket has been finished.
