SPORTS AT CONVENT
A St. Patrick’s Day celebration which took the form of a picnic in the Convent School grounds was held today. The function commenced this morning with a speech by Father Murphy, who then introduced Mr J. G. Barclay, M.P. for Marsden, who declared the sports open. The speaker placed the national idea before the children. He said the rising generation was inclined to forget the national ideals. The children gave three cheers and the races commenced. The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs W. Jones, were present at afternoon tea.
Results of races up to time of going' to press were:— 120 Yards Boys’ Championship.—L. Thompson 1, C. Taylor 2, L. Clune 3. 120 Yards Girls’ Championship.—M. Spring 1, C. Nash 2, M. Clark 3. Junior Boys’ Three-legged Race.— S. Sullivan and B. Peace 1; Y. Pevats and V. Unkovich 2. Junior Girls’ Three-legged Race.— U. Grenslade and E. Webb 1, J. Buckley and Z. Taylor 2. Senior Boys’ Three-legged Race. — B. Jenyns and C. Muir 1, C. Taylor and G. Brophy 2. Senior Girls’ Three-legged Race. — M. Clark and partner 1, L. Donoghue and E. Leef 2.
