Fourteen new members of the V' Legislative Council have been apr pointed by the Labour Government. $ The .list includes the previous Speaker Of the House of Representatives, . J Sir Charles Statham, and a representative of the native race, Mr Rang! MaWhete, of Awapuni. The members be' sworn in when the n£w Par.i 1 lament meets on March 25. Labour party thought it necessary, g “We< go into the Legislative Council ■■ quite unfettered,” said Mr Hunter, “but I know every man who ha's been appointed,- and I am satisfied they all will vote for an abolition bill ’’’ arid hand in their resignations if called on to do so.” Sp far as the k abolition was concerned, Mr Hunter said it was still a fn’: the’’Labour party’s platform but it might not be necessary to put it into effect immediately.
