POSSE CHASING MAORI
HAWKE’S BAY SEARCH - ______ -■ .'V F Per Press Association. —Corynahtl WAIPUKURAU, This Day ; A diligent search is being made for a young Maori named Martin Peranikoa, otherwise known as Bobby Maftime, by a posse of 11 mounted police operating in the Tikokino district, 17 miles from Waipukurau.
Shortly after midnight on Saturday, Mr J. Vestry gave chase to a man whom he discovered in the act of burgling his home.,. Early the same morning Mr Vestry and Constable Dawson captured the man, but the Maori broke away in the darkness. Peranikoa is armed with a shotgun. He was last seen in an empty house, and is alleged io_ have pointed the gun at a man, who later sent for assistance. Constable Moss, of Waipawa. and the Hastings police are engaged in the search. The man was charged recently at Napier with attempted. suicide by poisoning, and was convicted and given probation. He was born at Tikokino and is familiar with the country.
