TRICKS
\Sent in by Ella Day, Tanekaha R.D., Hikurangi. Age 16.) Many a boy and girl likes playing tricks, here are some:— Turn a glass tumbler upside down on the table, and then place a penny on the bottom. Say to your chum: “Could you knock this penny off the top of this tumbler?” No doubt she will say “yes” and when she has done it you say; “You haven’t knocked it off the top; you have, knocked it off the bottom.” Tell your chum that you can put a handkerchief under water without making it wet. Then stuff the hanky tightly in the bottom of a tumbler. Turn it upside down and push it down into a" bowl of water until it is quite covered. The water will not touch the hanky because of the air pressure. Try this:—Stretch I out your right arm in front of you and on the inside of the elbow joint place two wooden matchboxes. Now, without disturbing the matchboxes, try to turn your hand so that the palm faces downwards. It’s a real teaser.
