SERVICES ACCOUNT FOR WHANGAREI v / ■ A great deal hinged On the struggle on the central, pitch at the Reclamation. It was .just a question of whether Whangarei, minus Nisbet, could regain their lost prestige > apd out Services, the leaders. .This was the one and only hope they had of making up the leeway in the championship. However, it was a forlorn hope and even the most enthusiastic supporters of last year’s winners felt that the other was the better side. And so it proved. Giving themselves a great start by tempting Weir into Wilson’s trap (which has snared so many other men) when the New Zealand rep. had only notched two, Whangarei were unable to force the issue. Wilson; tired, and a team shorn of its bowlers in recent years had their substitutes pasted in every direction even by the late-comers. But even if the bowling was hit about, it took the batsmen two hoars to overcome it. Services’ early men selected the loose ones, and the result was that' the game lacked punch, and runs were very slow in coming. The first users of the wicket were at the creases for over three hours, but they allowed sufficient time to dismiss Whangarei. Details are as follow: COMBINED SERVICES.
