Scout Notes

XJOLIDAYS, WITH THEIR ACCOMPANYING JOYS OF CAMPING, ARE OYER, AND A NEW YEAR OF SCOUTING IS OPENING.
During the vacation, Hora Hora and Trinity Scouts each held a happy and instructive time under canvas at Ngunguru.
A high compliment was paid to Scouts in Northland by an old surveyor, who had been touring in the North. Writing in the “Auckland Star,” he said: “One thing pleased him greatly, for in this long motor trip he usually found that when he came to a well-equipped camp with the tents properly pitched there were generally a few Boy Scouts about, and no surveyor with many years of camping experience under all kinds of weather conditions could have done better.”
HORA HORA AT NGUNGURU
The First Hora Hora Troop’s annual camp was held on Mr H. R. Snell’s property at Ngunguru, from December 26 to January 4. The weather was perfect. The eamp. was run on the
patrol system—three patrols attending—and each boy took his turn at all the camp duties. The time was spent in various Scout activities, interspersed with swimming, boating arid games. The Troop thanks Mr A. Purchase; who so ably assisted S.M. Sharman with the running of the camp; Mr Snell for the use of hjs property; Mr Beehre, for transport; and Ifirst Whangarei Troop, for the loan of trek cart and gear. The camp was a huge success, and will be remembered by all — the two Scouts and “Aunt” Marjory, who went canoeing.
WEEKLY PARADES.
The Scout Troop commenced their weekly parades at the Den, Hora Hora Park, on Thursday night. A warm invitation is extended to any boys, from the age of 12, to come along and join up.
The Wolf Cub parades will resume next, Saturday morning, February 15.
THE CHIEF SCOUT SAYS :
Make hay»whenever your sun shines. Don’t wait for it to shine later on, clouds may get worse and rainy times set in.
SMILE AWHILE
“I look upon hiking as a tonic.” “Yes, and a passing lorry as a pick-me-up, I suppose?”
Little Miss Muffett Thought she could rough it, So hiking she went one day, But soon had a blister, Which didn’t assist her, So she finished her hike on a dray.
