Manicure andd Massage for Hands in Summer

A good many of us seem to suffer from the delusion that in the summer time our hands can look after themselves, and that they need nothing of the care which we gave them in cold-, er weather. Well, we are just making a big. mistake if we think that, because more than ever in short-sleeved summer frocks, must our hands be streamlined, and have a harmonious and well-groomed appearance. At this time of year our hands are so much exposed Jo sun and weather that it is almost impossible to keep them white, but they must be evenly browned with the arms. If the skin of the hands is even a shade darker than that of the arms, the hands have a tendency to look larger than they should. The golden rule, then, is do not expose the hands to the direct sunrays more than the arms and shoulders, and keep the skin soft and well for with suitable hand creams, massage and exercises.

Cream is Necessary.

The manicure, too, is important, of course, and we must again review nail enamel shades with an eye to the more outdoor life led on hot days. The first necessity is a cream which will keep the hands from getting that dry, withered appearance after sunburn. A cream of this kind must be rubbed in every day.

Have a large pot of it ready in the bathroom and use it before washing or manicuring. Melt an ounce of lanoline, and, while it is warm, stir into it half an ounce of almond oil and half an ounce of almond meal. The oils soften and Whiten, and the almond meal gives a gentle friction which, with the massage, is very beautifying.

Of course, there is nothing to equal the effect of rubbing in this cream at night and sleeping in a pair of loose gloves. The cream, then, has time to work wonders, and many a girl who has beautiful hands owes them to sleeping in gloves in this fashion two or three times a week. It also keeps the nails in splendid condition, preventing splitting and ragged cuticle.
