THE SMITHFIELD MEAT STRIKE
[British Official Wireless.! (Received 2 p.m.) RUGBY, February 7,
No further development in connection with the Smithfield Market strike, has occurred. The business of the market is at a standstill, but retail trade continues to be adequately supplied, direct from the docks, railways and other depots.
The steps taken, by the employers and by wholesale have enabled butchers all over London- tq obtain ample supplies of chilled and fresh meat, and no shortage is likely within the next few days. Efforts to bring the strike to an end are being continued, and union officials are renewing their efforts to persuade the men to resume the work they left without the authority of their leaders.
The only sympathetic action by workers elsewhere was a strike by a few men at the Aldgate meat market.
