Super-Navy for America

lUnited Press Association.-By Electric Telegraph-Copyright .3 (Received 10 a.m.)

NEW YORK, February 6

The Washington correspondent of the “New York Herald-Tribune” says Government ownership of the armament industry in America, especially in the naval category, is. proposed in an important series of reports submitted to the Munitions Committee of the Senate by the Research Department of the Inter-State Commerce Commission.

The report states that the total investment required before the Government could begin to make all its ships, aircraft,' and small arms and powder would be 47,000,000 dollars, but the saving which could be effected is shown by the fact that, on one heavy cruiser alone, the Government could reduce the cost by 1,000,000 dollars.

Ah elaborate programme Is proposed, which is calculated to equip the United States with a superpowerful navy of 325 vessels, 20 years after the investment of about 24,000,000 dollars in new plant, and at an annual cost of between 150,000,000 an’d 175,000,000 dollars.
