Auckland requires j an outright victory to regain this trophy, which the northern eleven so brilliantly won in 1933-34. under the captaincy of A. J. Postles. Wellington last won the trophy, at present held by Canterbury, in the 1931-32 series, when, despite a wonderful second innings of 165 by Vivian. out of 285, the Wellington eleven was victorious with six wickets to spare.
