RAWENE
Miss Sheriden and Miss Smith, who were amongst those marooned in the Kaikohe' train at Kawakawa, are the guests of Mrs Boyd. Miss Moran, also among the marooned passengers, arrived in Rawene to resume teaching. Miss Underwood has gone to Whangarei to join the staff of Drummond Bros.
Mr C. Hargrave returned from Nelson on Tuesday, having motored by easy stages from Wellington. Mr and Mi’s Maguiness and family arrived back in Rawene an Tuesday. They left Auckland on Saturday, intending to motor through, but were marooned, and were unable to complete their journey until the forest road was cleared.
The streets of Rawene are at present undergoing a general clean-up. and when the old buildings opposite the Post Office are removed, the town will present a spick-and-span appearance.
Mr L. Whiteficld, late of Spender’s Garage staff, recently left for Auckland to enter the employment of John W. Andrews and Sons, where Mr Copr per, also late of Spender’s staff, is
foreman mechanic, in charge of some thirty other employees.
School commenced on Monday, with only one of Rawene’s three teachers present, the other two having had illfortune to be held up with bad weather.
