WESTFIELD STOCK

{Special to "Nortltem Advocate."} AUCKLAND, Thursday. There was again a short yarding of ox beef at Westfield stock sales today, and, as*a consequence, cattle continued in keen demand. The yarding including some inferior quality lines, but, taken generally, the standard was well up to recent level. Brisk bidding characterised the sale, and steers j were dearer than they have been for some time. A line of steers sold from. £lO 10/ to £l4 17/6. ! Cow and heifer beef came forward | in average numbers, and under | steady competition being, if anything, a shade better than last week. Calf pens were well filled and, selling under ready demand, calves were very firm at last week's rate. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., reports that it had a small entry of beef, which met with a ready market, with values firm at late quotations. prospects was reflected in a free sale for store and for maiden ewes. The fat lambs were penned in fair numbers, and buyers operated actively at fully late rates. The pig pens were well filled. Competition was brisk for all prime ' baconers, well-done pigs over 150 lbs realising to 58/. with 59/ for outstanding pens. There was a slightly ' easier tendency for porkers.. Stores were in strong demand at improved rates. Prices per lb for baconers worked out at 43d, and for porkers, Sid to 5Jd. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. There was a . keen demand, with improved values ruling for baconers,; and very firm 1 rates for porkers.
