THRILLING SANDERS CUP RACE
WELLINGTON SNATCH NARROW VICTORY {Special to "Northern Advocate."} AUCKLAND, This Day. Some thrilling sailing was witnessed in the second race of the Sanders Memorial Cup contest, which was won yesterday afternoon by Wellington. Lavina crossed the line with only 56 seconds in, hand from Val (Otago), which beat Avenger (Canterbury) by 18 seconds. The Auckland boat, Aileen, and Southland's representative were some four minutes later.
The race started at 3.1 p.m., and the finishing times were:—Wellington (Lavina); 5h 42m 7s, 1; Otago 43m 3s; Canterbury l (Avenger), 5h 43m 21s; Auckland (Aileen), 5h 46m 7s; Southland (Irene), 5h 46m 235. Canterbury has now won one race, and Wellington one. The cup is awarded to the first boat to secure three wins.
