THREE-QUARTERS OF AN HOUR
TO CONFIRM COUNCIL ' MINUTES ANOTHER TAKAPUNA BREEZE [Special to "Northern Advocate."'] AUCKLAND, This Day. The Takapuna Borough Council apparently believes in taking its time when dealing with such simple matters as confirming the minutes of a previous meeting. At last night's meeting- this item occupied three-quarters of an hour, the Mayor objecting, at the beginning, to the wording. Mr Gu'iniven: "I would ask the town clerk why no accurate record of the last meeCng appears in the minutes." Minutes Accurate. The town clerk, Mr W. J. Bowden: "To the best of my knowledge, sir, the minutes are accurate." Mr Guiniven: "Well, you do not state that, after a torrent of abuse, the Deputy-Mayor, Mr White, picked up a bell and threatened to assault me. What record would there have been of the incident if the bell had had a deadly effect?" Mr White: "I think it should be in the minutes that I called you a liar and offered to prove it. It would be the third time fn my short memory that you have been called a liar in this room. I was heated, perhaps, but it was because of your lying statement." Legal Action Threat. Mr Guiniven: "My friend, I am going to take legal action against you in the very near future." Mr White: "I am surprised you have not before." Mr'W. W. Ridgley: "I move that all the offensive remarks made at the last meeting go down in the minutes." This was seconded by Mr Jay. After a-prolonged discussion on the matter, Mr Guiniven remarked that he was "not going to stand much more of this sort of thing." The motion was lost, Messrs Ridgley and Jay being the only supporters.
