[United Press Association.-By Electric (Received 10 a.m.) : LONDON, January 29. <T<HE CORRESPONDENT OF "THE TIMES" AT ADDIS ABABA SAYS THAT RAS KASSA REPORTS THAT THE ITALIANS ARE STRIVING TO RECAPTURE THEIR LOST POSITIONS, EMPLOYING HEAVY ARTILLERY, BUT THE ABYSSINIANS REPULSED THE ATTACKERS. Ras Kassa covers the southern area near Makale, while Ras Seyoum is prosecuting guerilla warfare across the Adowa and Makale communications with Gheralta. A message from Dessye asserts that Abyssinians, with antiquated rifles, fired at Italian seaplanes, which were bombing churches in Tembien, and brought one down ; in flames. One of the machine's occupants descended by parachute, but was caught in a tree on which he was hanged. The other occupants of the machine were incinerated. 4000 Italians are reported to be occupying Negelli in the south, but the Abyssinians believe the : February rains will endanger their supplies from Dolo. Meanwhile, the reinforcements for Ras Desta, who may have to explain to the Emperor why he lost Negelli and submit to a rebuke, are advancing from Sidamo.

Talk Of Revolt. The "Daily Mail's" correspondent' at Addis Ababa gives prominence to rumours of a revolt in Abyssinia. It points out that the Gojjam uprising against the Emperor took 5000 picked troops a month to subdue. The paper adds that 130,000 troops of a different race from the dissatisfied tribesmen are moving under three Dedjazmatches south-west from Harrar, ostensibly to cut off the Italian army between Dolo and S.idamo', but their actual route traverses the centre . of the dissatisfied areas. • • . : - "■". Petty local jealousies are asserting themselves now that the first patriotism has. subsided. Moreover,, rthe peasant cultivators feel the strain of supplying and transporting, gratis, food for the tr.oops.

Italy has sent a Note to the Egyptian Government protesting against the application of sanctions, and declaring that Italy preserved the right to demand indemnity foi» moral and material damage that Italian subjects have suffered. •:
