MAUNGAKARAMEA PICNIC

SUCCESSFUL GATHERING YESTERDAY

After being twice postponed, Maungakaramea's annual picnic took place on Wednesday. Glorious weather greeted the occasion. Owing to counter-at-tractions, however,.the crowd was not as big as usual. The committee had made ample provision for the children in 'the way of prizes and toys, each child, whether winning a race or not, being given a • present. ■ ■ The older people were also catered for, and keen competition took place among the ladies in the nail-driving events. The young men's race was well patronised, there being nine entrants, and the close finish showed that the handicappers had done their work well.
