I. Special to ”Northern Advocate.”] MANGAWAI, This Day. Dr. W. H. Horton, of Auckland, presided over a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Mangawai Deep-Sea Fishing Club. The following officers were elected: President, Dr. W. H. Horton; vicepresidents, Messrs H. W. Crawford (Whangarei), G. R. Rees George (Devonport), B. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair and secretary. The next morning the Auckland party tried their luck on the fishing grounds in the launch Marina. Dr. Horton hooked a very large shark, but, after two hours’ tsrenuous fighting, the fish disgorged the hook and escaped. However, the day proved most successful, with a catch of fifty snapper and six hapuka.
