FAIRBURNS
VALEDICTORY. On Friday evening last a pledsant social gathering was held in the Fairburns church to enable the residents of the district to bid farewell to the McKinnon family. Rev. A. J. Johnston capably fulfilled the duties of M.C. Community singing, interspersed with musical items and competitions, assisted to pass a pleasant evening.
In his chairman’s remarks, Mr Johnston referred to the sterling service rendered to the community by the McKinnon family, particularly in church matters, and wished them Godspeed in their new sphere. Other speakers, who voiced their appreciation of the qualities of the departing friends, were Messrs A. Tracey, W. Metcalfe (on behalf of the school committee), Mrs Metcalfe (representing the Ladies’ Guild!, and Mr L. Foster (the Bible Classes).
Mrs McKinnon and her daughter, Mi’s Baker, of Wellington, were presented with bouquets by Misses Lorna Tracey and Merle Metcalfe. A presentation of a crystal bowl was made to Mr and Mrs McKinnon from the residents of the district, and a sum of money to Mr Charlie McKinnon, Junr., from the Bible classes. In reply, “Charlie” thanked the people for their kind expressions of goodwill. The serving of supper by the ladies brought a pleasant evening to a close.
Memorial Services,
On' Sunday last, in the Fairburns Church, special memorial* services were conducted in connection with the death of the late King George V. The preacher in the morning was Rev. A. J. Johnston, and in the afternoon Rev. E. B. Moore. Both services were attended by good congregations.
