SLASHED TO DEATH IN GAOL
U.S. MURDER CASE RECALLED • (Received 10 a.m.> / NEW YORK, January 28. A message from Joliet, Illinois, states that Richard Loeb, who, with Mason Leopold, was serving a life gaol sentence for the murder of Robert Franks in 1924, was today- slashed to death by a fellow convict, James Day, who attacked him with a razor.
In recent years Loeb had been allowed considerable liberty within the prison, and, with Day, was organising a correspondence school for the use of the prisoners at the time of the attack upon him. Without going into details, officials intimated that Loeb v/as still afflicted with the degeneracy which had been evident in the attack upon Franks.
