KAMO PIG SALE

RECORD YARDING; EXCELLENT COMPETITION

Walter Wakelin reports holding a record pig sale at Kamo yesterday. Well above the advertised number of pigs came forward and the attendance of buyers was also a record. The demand for large store pigs was unlimited, and buyers for this class were numerous. Approximately 200 fat pigs were yarded, and these sold under keen competition at fully export rates. Weaners and slips came forward in large numbers and a ready market was available for this class.

Top price for weaners was £1 1/, while a pen of extra choice slips realised £1 7/6. There were also yarded 150 head of cattle and 300 store lambs. There was a good demand for 70 mixed steers and a total clearance

resulted. A moderate yarding of

dairy cattle came forward and these sold under keen competition. Top price was £5 17/6 for a nice Jersey oow in milk.

Pigs.—Heavy baconers, £2 13/ to .£2 17/; medium baconers, £2 8/ to £2 10/6; heavy porkers, £1 18/ to £23/; medium porkers. £1 14/ to £1 17/; light porkers, £1 12/ to £1 13/6; good quality stores, £1 12/ to £1 16/; medium stores, £1 7/ to £1 10/; small stores, to £1 6/6; best slips, £1 4/ to £1 7/6; medium slips, 19/ to £1 3/; inferior slips, 17/ to 18/3; best weaners, 17/6 to £1; medium weaners, to 14/; small weaners, 7/ to 10/; breeding sows, £1 10/ to £3; Tamworth boars, 2gns to 3gns; choppers, £1 10/ to £2 7/6.

Cattle. —Dairy cows in milk, £3 10/ to £5.17/6; springing Jersey heifers, £2 10/ to £4 5/; springing cows, £3 to £4 10/; 3-year coloured steers, to

£4 15/; 2-year coloured steers, £3; a line of good quality 18-month Shorthorn steers realised £3 15/; 18-month coloured steers, to £2 15/; fat cows, £3 10/ to £4; cows and calves, to £3 10/; store cows, to £2 15/; boner cows, to £1 18/; small store lambs, 8/ to 10/.
