BRITISH LABOUR DECLARES ITS LOYALTY
(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, January 22. The Leader of the Labour Opposition, Major C. R. Attlee, and Sir Walter Citrine, and Mrs Adamson representing the National Council of Labour attended at Buckingham Palace, and presented a declaration of sympathy with King Edward, the widbwed Queen, and other members of the Royal Family. “The Council shares the Nation’s sorrow, and desires to associate itself with the national and worldwide tributes,” said the declaration. “The Nation, in the late King’s long reign of over 25 years, has passed through profound political and social changes and the tragedy of the Great War, and, throughout that period, his late Majesty maintained the highest traditions of constitutional kingship, combined with a noble character and a high sense of personal duty. “His influence strengthened and deepened the foundation of democrat^

In his reign the Throne and people found a community of free citizenship in the British Commonwealth of Nations! “The National Council, appreciating to the full your Majesty’s deep interest in all matters affecting the well being of its people, assures you of its loyalty, and expresses the earnest hope that the ideals of. .your late father will ever inspire and sustain you throughout a long reign of peace and prosperity.” The National Council of Labour decided to recommend that no public gathering of any section of the Labour movement would be held until after the funeral.
