Messages from the Far East confirm the belief that the Japanese are rapidly spreading their influence in China. The “Daily Herald’s” Peking correspondent says that the result of Japan’s new sensational blow is that the vast state of Inner Mongolia, hitherto under the Nanking Government’s overlordship, has declared itself independent, and will now be controlled from Tokio. Prince Teh Wang, formerly chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Council, announced that he had become the supreme ruler of the Independent Inner Mongolia Empire. Wang carried on secret negotiations with Tokio, Nanking and Moscow and decided to throw in his lot with the Japanese and Manchukuo Governments, whose troop movements had forced his hand. The Manchukuo Government presented Wang, who is a direct descendant of Jcnghiz Khan, with a private aeroplane, and guaranteed him ample arms supplies and support in the event of the Nanking Government’s aggression. Japan has succeeded in outflanking Russia’s ally, the Independent Outer Mongolia Republic, besides completing the encirclement of North China by new puppet states accepting Japanese overlordship. A later message from Peking states that Prince Teh Wang and Jodpajak, the Mongol leader in Chahar, announced the establishment of a new autonomous state under the name of Mengkukuo,
