Bay Half-Holiday,

The Bay of Islands County Council, at its last meeting, decided that Wednesday shall be the statutory weekly half-holiday in the county.

Holidays By Rail. Holiday traffic on the northern section of line continues fairly heavy, and the addition of a couple of extra carriages to the express at Whangarei has become a common procedure. Today accommodation is again well booked up.

Car Out of Control, Out of control, a new sedan motor car, driven by Miss E. L. Froggett, aged 24, of Boundary Road, Claudelands, Hamilton, crashed into the shop front of Morris Stores and Motors Ltd. yesterday afternoon. The driver suffered a deep cut on the chin, and was taken to the Waikato Hospital. Her condition is not serious, Excursion To Opua. Considering the number of counter attractions, the railway excursion to the Bay of Islands yesterday proved very successful. When the train left Whangarei, 59 were seated, and 20 more joined ’at Mair. Arriving at Otiria, it was necessary to add four cars, and 280 people disembarked at Opua. The weather was perfect, favouring launch excursions on the harbour. Flight From Timaru,

The Whangarei Homing Pigeon Club staged a race from Timaru on December, but no birds arrived home till recently. Then two, belonging to Mi W. Griffiths, completed the marathon fly. This is the first time .that the distance, 640 miles, has been tried by any club north of Auckland, and, although his birds did not make home in race time, Mr Griffiths has earned the distinction of having the only one to fly from Timaru to Whangarei. One of the finishers is only a yearling.

Flight For Cricketers. Arrangements have been made by the Manawatu Cricket Association for D. A. R. Moloney and N. Gallichan, the two Manawatu members of the Wellington Plunket Shield team against Otago, to fly to Dunedin, leaving by special aeroplane at 3.30 p.m. on Thursday, and reaching their destination that evening. This will enable them to play for Manawatu in the game against the M.C.C. touring side, which commences at Palmerston North on Wednesday, then to represent Wellington at Dunedin on Friday.

Rotary Club. The first weekly luncheon of the present year was held by the Rotary Club today.
