TRADE PARLEY PROGRESS

AUSTRALIA AND JAPAN (Received 11.30 a.m.) ‘ SYDNEY, This Day. The Canberra correspondent of the '.‘Sun” states that rapid progress has been made in the negotiations for a trade treaty between Australia and Japan. Preliminary agreements on many points have been reached between the Japanese Consul-General, Mr Murai, and Sir Henry Gullett. It is anticipated that a draft agreement will be ready for submission to the Government at a very early date. It is understood that Japan, in view |of her adverse trade balance with Australia, sought concessions with a number of manufactured articles, including textiles, clothing, toys, and foodstuffs. Australia is prepared to give certain concessions, the extent of which is unknown.
