INVINCIBLE PEAK

TO CONQUER EVEREST. EXPEDITION ANTICIPATES SUCCESS. (Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, January 9. “We have greater reason to hope for success than ever before,” said Mr Hugh Ruttledge, to the “Daily Telegraph,” when describing the preparations for the new assault on Mt. Everest. “The team consists of firstrate men, 10 of whom have had previous experience in the Himalayas, One great objective will be to place an additional camp higher than the highest camp in 1933 and a good deal nearer the summit, probably within 1200 feet. Even from this additional camp, it will take the climbing party about 15 hours to reach the summit and return. The climber's will have half an hour at the top at the most.” Mr Ruttledge will leave for India on January 31. The expedition will start from Kalimpong, Bengal, on March 20.
