A disturbing feature of the annuol returns of the Magistrate’s Court at Dunedin for 1935 is the large increase in the number of juveniles who came before the Children’s Court for various offences, there being 50 more than during the previous year. There has been a progressive increase since 1932, as the following figures show:—l932, 213; 1933. 226; 1934, 277; 1935, 327. The 327 juveniles who appeared last year included 306 boys and 21 girls, and the 277 who appeared .during 1934 included 213 boys and 64 girls. It is significant, that, while there has been a large increase in the number of boys appearing, there has been a marked decrease in girls.
