STOCK SALES i i VALUES AT MATAMATA [Special to “Northern Advocate.”] MATAMATA, This Day. The Farmers’ Cooperative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., reports having held its Matamata stock sale on Wednesday, when sheep were penned in good numbers, with the usual proportion of fat wethers and ewes. Competition was good. A moderate number of store lambs found ready sale with values very firm. Fat cows and heifers were penned in moderate numbers, with a fair proportion of finished cattle. Competition was very keen, while second quality sorts showed no alteration. Boner cows practically maintained late values, while potter bulls were easier. There was an extra large yarding of fat pigs, a big proportion of which were overweight baconers. The latter sold at scheduled rates, and competition was keener on lighter qualities. Porkers sold at average rate. A small yarding of stores and weaners were keenly sought, prices in this section ,showing an increase of approximately 5/ per head. Fat wethers made 22/2 to 24/; fat ewes, 13/7 to 14/0; forward- conditioned lambs, 14/ to 15/; store mixed sex lambs, 10/6 to 11/4. Prime medium fat cows and heifers; £6 10/ to £7 2/; medium fat cows and heifers, £5 15/ to £6 5/; lighter, £4 10/ to £5 5/; killable cows, £3 5/ to £4 2/6; heavy boner cows, £2 12/ to £3 1/; lighter, 30/ to £2 5/; heavy potter bulls, £6 to £7 4/; lighter, £2 10/ to £4 10/; forward conditioned Polled Angus steers, £7B/; store cows, £2 5/ to £2 15/; Hereford cows and calves, £4 to £4 14/. Pigs: Quality baconers, £2 14/ to £2 16/; heavy, £2 12/; medium, £2 11/ to £2 13/; light, £2 7/ to £2 10/; heavy porkers, £2 4/ to £2 8/; medium, 39/ to 43/; light, 35/ to 40/; large stores, 33/ to 38/; smaller, 28/ to 31/; slips, 19/ to 26/; good weaners, 15/ to 23/; medium choppers, 24/ to 36/. AT WESTFIELD [Special to "Northern Advocate."] AUCKLAND, This Day. There was a firm demand for store cattle at the Westfield stock sale yesterday. The yarding of store cattle was slightly above average, and, while the prices did not show any appreciable advance over recent improved rates, the pens were cleared quickly under keen competition. Boner cattle were also in firm demand, and fat bulls sold up to £6 7/6. The yarding of dairy cattle was slightly below average. Good quality cows and heifers sold readily at good values.
The top price obtained, £7, was for a fine type of Jersey heifer.
Quotations were: — Store cattle.—Young cows, good condition, from £2 10/ to £4 5/; less condition, fair quality, 35/ to 42/6; others, 32/6; boner and meaty cows, £3; boner bulls, to £6 7/6; breeding Jersey bulls, to £4 15/; yearling Jersey heifers, good quality, to 50/; others, to 37/6. Dairy cows. —Jersey cows, good quality, in milk and close to profit, to £6 5/; more backward, to £5 10/; others, to £3 10/; Jersey cross cows, good quality, close to profit, £5 15/; more backward, £4 10/; others, to £3 10/; Jersey heifers, choice quality, close to profit, to £7; more backward, to £5; others, to £3 10/; Shorthorn cows and heifers, good quality, close to profit, to £5 7/6; more backward, to £4 10/; others, to £3 10/; other cows, to £3 10/. BUOYANT TONE [Special to “Northern Advocate.'! PUKEKOHE, This Day. , Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., held a sale at Pukekohe yesterday. A buoyant tone prevailed. Dairy cattle came forward in small numbers, with values showing a decided improvement on closing rates last year. Fat heifers made £6 to £7 12/6; best cows, £5 to £6 5/; backward sorts, £3 15/ to £4 10/; Jersey heifers, running with bull, £1 16/ to £2 i7/6; cows with calves, £2 2/6 to £4 10/.
The yarding of beef and boner cows was heavy. Competition was good throughout, and values were up to those of before the holidays. Light fat steers made £7 5/; prime heavy cows and heifers, £6 10/ to £7 2/6; lighter, £5 5/ to £5 15/; light, £4 7/6 to £5; other killable cows and heifers, £2 15/ to £4 2/6; heavy boners, £1 18/ to £2 12/6; lighter, £1 to £1 14/; fresh store cows, £3 2/ to £3 15/; others, £1 15/ to £2 17/6; bulls, £3 to £7 7/6. There was an overflow yarding of pigs, with steady competition throughout, and all classes sold at rates on a par with Westfield. Choppers made £1 4/ to £2 4/; heavy baconers, £2 16/ to £2 17/; overweights, £2 6/ to £2 10/; light and medium, £2 5/ to £2 11/; heavy porkers, £2 1/ to £2 4/; medium, £1 15/ to £1 18/; light and unfinished, £1 7/ to £1 13/. Large framed stores were in strong request, and realised advanced rates. Best sold up to £1 12/; smaller, £1 5/ to £1 9/; good slips, 16/ to 22/; best weaners, 11/ to 14/; weedy and small, 5/ to 8/; service boars, £2 2/ to £3 3/; sows, due to farrow, £2 to £2 7/6. The price for baconers averaged about 43d per lb, dressed weights, and for porkers, s£d to 53d.
